A renovated historic property in Old Town Alexandria dubbed The George, with ties to President George Washington, is aiming to open as an Airbnb property, likely by mid-July, according to property manager Michael Cao.
The home at 506 Cameron St. dates to 1815, according to City records; its kitchen was reportedly part of Washington's property next door, at 508 Cameron St..
The property was purchased last year for $2 million, according to City records, and is owned by Alexandria residents Steven and Martha Peterson, members of the family that developed National Harbor. Renovations on the Cameron Street property began soon after it was purchased.
The Petersons hosted a preview of the property Tuesday, June 25, complete with a Revolutionary War "soldier" standing sentry outside the front door, which is flanked by gas lamps. Guests were treated to the sounds of a string quartet, champagne and small bites (bacon-wrapped scallops, deviled eggs and more) as they perused the home.
Cao said the property will be available soon for rent on Airbnb and is ideal for wedding parties (there are eight bedrooms, each with its own bath); the entire property can be rented or by bedroom suite. Rates will be seasonal and likely be in the range of $200 per suite and about $3,900 for the entire home, he noted.
The main level features a living area, dining room, kitchen and a patio in the rear. The kitchen likely would not be available to guests unless there was an event held at the property, he noted. Parking spots are available for up to five cars.
Cao said other potential uses for the property include cooking classes partnered with chefs from local restaurants.
