Robcyn's in Bradlee Shopping Center.
Robcyns, in business for more than 60 years and a key resource for local parents, is closing, a store employee confirmed Friday morning.
The store has been a staple at Bradlee Shopping Center, selling a wide variety of items for children (from children's dance shoes to Girl and Boy Scout badges, toys and clothes) and items for adults. The store was a big part of the community and often hosted Girl Scout troops selling cookies outside its store.
Robcyns, which opened in 1963, was a family-owned and operated business. The store originally started in the Arlandria neighborhood. The store opened in the Bradlee Shopping Center in 1986.
In recent years, the store has had some bad luck, including a car running through the front window that caused significant damage. In addition, the owner was vocal about security issues as local teenagers increasingly gathered at Bradlee Shopping Center. The owner has also mentioned rising rent as a concern in the past.
The store has started a liquidation sale with everything at 30% off. The store's last day will be toward the end of April.
