A fixture among Alexandria’s boutique district is closing its doors on March 6.
Periwinkle, a women’s boutique for fashion and accessories, first opened in 2005 and has been most recently located at 111 S. Columbus St. The shop was founded by Elizabeth Mason, a former politico and longtime fashion aficionado.
When asked what’s next, Mason said she is ready to move on to the next chapter. She looks forward to having more free time on the weekends and evenings and enjoying time with her three golden retrievers.
“2022 is a year for change and new ventures for Periwinkle. When I opened the doors in September 2005, I has no idea what to expect,” Mason said in an email to customers. “Opening 4 store locations, getting to work with so many amazing people, and basically getting to shop for a living has been bigger and better than any dream I had for Periwinkle 17 years ago. The Lord has blessed me beyond belief and I give Him all the glory and thanks. So, with mixed emotions, I am announcing that I will be closing Periwinkle March 6, 2022… thank you for 16-1/2 years. Words can’t express what it means to put your heart and soul into something and have people respond so favorably for so many years," Mason concluded.
Everything in the store and online is currently 50 percent off and racks, fixtures and décor are also for sale. The store will be open daily from noon to 5 p.m. until March 6. Shoppers can reach out to Mason to shop outside of those hours.
111 S. Columbus St. was listed for sale back in October for $2,850,000 and is currently under contract. Information on who is purchasing the 4,838 sq. ft. property is not yet available and it remains to be seen if the new owners will continue to use the space for commercial/retail purposes or convert it to an exclusively residential home.
