The historic building at the foot of Duke Street will be renovated by historic preservation specialists Bonitt Builders.
“We are thrilled to announce that Robinson Landing’s 10 Duke Street warehouse building will be renovated to operate a market and restaurant by Alexandria’s Murray Bonitt, a custom builder who specializes in historic preservation through adaptive re-use,” said Evan Goldman, vice president, EYA LLC. “This fulfills our plans for commercial space at Robinson Landing and further delivers on the city’s vision to develop and activate the southern anchor of Old Town’s waterfront.”
Through its affiliated entity 2 Duke LLC, EYA will sell the 10 Duke Street warehouse (also known as 2 Duke St.) to Bonitt Builders. After the renovation, the building will be used for a market on the first floor offering coffee, pastries, prepared foods, beer and wine for community residents. The balance of the space will be used for a casual restaurant. Read more about the history of the building from the City here.
With the addition of Bonitt, Goldman said Robinson Landing will feature two of Alexandria’s top restaurant developers.
In March, EYA announced that Alexandria Restaurant Partners (ARP) would operate a 5,000-square-foot, fine dining restaurant in the condominium building where Duke Street crosses The Strand along the new waterfront promenade. An additional ARP casual Mediterranean concept will combine a small year-round operation in a second condominium building with a 232-seat outdoor dining area on Robinson Landing’s renovated pier.

“We are excited to bring Bonitt Builders on board for the Duke Street project,” Goldman said. “Murray Bonitt and his firm have received awards from the American Institute of Architects and the Historic Alexandria Foundation for projects involving the preservation and adaptive reuse of older industrial and commercial structures including the Virtue Feed and Grain warehouse at 106 S. Union, and the Majestic Café at 911 King Street, in Alexandria. We believe Murray’s talents will yield similar results for the Duke Street property."
Robinson Landing is a joint venture among EYA-affiliated companies; JBG Investment Fund IX, LLC; and Mitsui Fudosan America (MFA). When completed in 2020, the project will include 26 townhomes, 70 condominiums with onsite dining and retail, a waterfront promenade and revitalized pier.
