Demolition has been completed at 1611 King St., at the northwest corner of King and Harvard streets, making way for a new Hyatt Centric Hotel.
A small office building was recently demolished to make way for the new six-story hotel, which will also include office space and a restaurant. Underground parking is planned.
The hotel is expected to be 52,892 square feet with 11,984 square feet for additional office space.
Owner/developer Magna Hospitality of Warwick, Rhode Island, specializes in investing, developing and managing the hospitality industry.
The architect for the project is Cooper Carry Architects, an award-winning firm based in Old Town Alexandria.
The new hotel will be just down the street from the Hilton Alexandria Old Town and the Wyndham, and across the street from the Kimpton Lorien Hotel & Spa and the Hampton Inn.
Local residents along Harvard Street have expressed concerns about parking on residential streets and a potential increase in traffic.
