Alexandria will get its third Harris Teeter grocery store, opening in "early summer" according to signs posted across the front of the store, at 4600D King St.
The new store, 62,000 square feet in size, will be located at West Alex, the new development that also includes Array, an apartment building and the Silver Diner restaurant that opened on the corner of King and N. Beauregard streets. West Alex is owned by Weingarten Realty.
Harris Teeter offers a customer rewards program called VIC, which offers automatic discounts at checkout and a gas discount program tied to purchases, offering up to $1 off a gallon of gas up to 35 gallons at certain gas stations including BP and Amoco. You can also gas up at Harris Teeter's HT Fuel Centers located in Dulles or Ashburn in Northern Virginia.
The new Alexandria store is located 1 mile from a Harris Teeter at the Shirlington Village shopping center, at 4250 Campbell Ave. That store is considerably smaller at 23,000 square feet.
The other Harris Teeter stores in Alexandria are located at the Shoppes at Foxchase at 4641 Duke St. (that store is just over 55,000 square feet) and in Old Town North at 735 N. St. Asaph St.
The Matthews, N.C.-headquartered company, a subsidiary of The Kroger Co., was co-founded in 1960 by North Carolina grocers W.T. Harris and Willis Teeter. Today it counts 260-plus stores in Virginia, D.C., Maryland, Delaware, North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia.
Other businesses at the West Alex mixed-use development include Sushi Jin, E60 Fitness, Rush Cycle and PACS Urgent Care (coming soon).
