Array at West Alex, a new $200 million mixed-use apartment community with retail space, including a Harris Teeter supermarket, is set to open its doors to its first residents on Dec. 1.
Leasing has already begun at the property and Dec. 1 is the date that new apartment residents can move in, said Bill Coats, vice president of Acquisitions and Development for Weingarten Realty.
Located on Berkeley Street near the intersection of King and Beauregard streets, Array at West Alex offers 278 apartments ranging from about 600 to 1,400 square feet and available in a variety of layouts, from studios (starting at $1,875) to one-bedrooms (starting at $2,185) and two-bedrooms (starting at $2,665).
The project, developed by Weingarten Realty and Abramson Properties, broke ground in 2017. Orr Partners managed construction, Whiting-Turner served as the contractor, and DCS Design handled architecture and design. The Bozzuto Group manages the property.
“Array at West Alex is a transformational project for Alexandria and the entire western part of the region,” Coats said. “This is where all the details come together – luxury living amenities, unprecedented shopping, and dining experiences, a prime location, and convenient connectivity to D.C. and public transit. We’re excited to see our first residents and retailers begin to move in and can’t wait to be part of what the future holds in West Alexandria.”
The property got its name because of its array of its location and amenities, Coats noted.
All apartments feature open kitchens with Quartz countertops, tile backsplashes, energy-efficient, stainless steel appliances, white or cherry cabinets, polished chrome fixtures, and flexible islands. Select apartment homes offer exclusive features like dens, 18-foot-ceilings, and stunning views of the D.C. metro area, including the Washington Monument. Other onsite amenities include a lobby lounge with fireplace and billiards, a fitness center and yoga room, a resort-style deck and water feature, a dog run and pet spa, both indoor and outdoor community kitchens, valet parking, keyless entry, complimentary high-speed Wi-Fi in common areas and a concierge.
Situated in the heart of Alexandria's West End, Array is part of a five-acre urban center that features 100,000 square feet of onsite dining and retail opportunities. In addition to 62,000-square-foot Harris Teeter (slated to open in in early 2021), the Silver Diner (opening fall 2020), a nail salon and Higher Ground Education, a Montessori school (opening summer 2020), have already signed leases.
A nail salon and another restaurant are also slated for the community, Coats noted, but the restaurant information is not available yet. Another 12,000 square feet of office space is available on the second floor over the Silver Diner, which Coats said would be perfect for a dental practice, insurance company or real estate sales office.
Large windows bathe living, dining, and retails spaces in natural light, while both interior and exterior design elements in stone, concrete, metal, and natural wood complement the community’s easy-going style. Landscaped brick walkways will feature art installations by artists Harry McDaniel, David Smedley and Alma Selimovic.
Commuters are just a few stoplights from I-395; public transit stops via one of the on-site Metrobus, DASH or BRT stops is currently in the works. The apartment building’s lobby will feature digital screens displaying the latest public transit information, and there’s a 900-space underground parking garage serving the entire development.
