A new concept focused on work-life balance (with food) will be coming to Del Ray sometime in November.
Mulberry Lane will be opening at 2016 Mt. Vernon Ave., the former home of popular café Bon Vivant.
The venture will offer "a unique environment designed to answer the call of modern families who crave quality time together while keeping the balance between family moments and time for parents to recharge," according to Mulberry Lane's website.
Neighborhood Restaurant Group will operate a breakfast and lunch spot alongside Mulberry Lane, with coffee and baked goods in the morning, and then sandwiches and salads for lunch. There may be evening plans in the works, according to NRG's Michael Babin.
Mulberry Lane Co-Founder and General Manager Stella Borou is a mom and a former Del Ray resident. She taught German and worked with young children before switching careers and working for a European retailer. She now has two young children of her own and lives in Springfield.
"After having my second child, I made the decision to pursue this passion and vision and dream of mine, a place catered for families and adults with a way to balance family life with work," Borou said.
The website explains, "Our café is a one-of-a-kind family destination that offers supervised, engaging fun for kids and relaxation or productivity for parents - all under one roof. Whether you’re joining your kids in play, enjoying a cup of coffee while watching your little ones thrive in their creative play, or checking off your to-do list in our adult-only workspace, we provide the perfect balance for every family."
Parents will be able to purchase memberships to the co-working space, with flexible scheduling. Interested parents can join the email list at mulberrylaneva.com for a chance to win a free 3-month membership.
