On the heels of Periwinkle boutique, which announced last week that it will be closing after nearly 17 years in business, another popular Alexandria store is closing its doors. Kiskadee, a boutique selling women’s clothing, accessories, home goods and gifts located at 2205 Mount Vernon Ave. in Del Ray will close April 3.
Kiskadee owner Celeste Crutchfield announced the decision to close the store in a letter published on Feb. 24 by Alexandria Stylebook. “The last two years, running a business in a pandemic has zapped me. I haven't been the wife, mother, or friend I want to be. I haven't been present for the most important relationships in my life in favor of exerting all my energy to maintain Kiskadee during tough times. I haven't taken care of myself, either,” Crutchfield explained in the letter.
Crutchfield went on to thank all of her loyal customers and employees and expressed gratitude for the experience. “Despite the hardships of the last two years, it's been fun, and I've learned so much. I've also made some amazing friends along the way and was able to get involved in my community more” said Crutchfield.
Kiskadee has been a Del Ray fixture since 2007. Crutchfield became the owner of the store five years ago.
This is not the complete end for Kiskadee, but rather the beginning of another chapter. Crutchfield wrote that she will still run the online store and hopes to participate in pop-ups in holiday shows which she will announce on the boutique’s Facebook and Instagram accounts. She also has not ruled out the possibility of re-opening another brick-and-mortar store sometime in the future.
Everything in the store is currently 20 to 80 percent off with additional markdowns coming over the five weeks until closing.
