Hyatt Place National Harbor recently broke ground on a seven-story waterfront hotel and expects to open in late 2020, OTO Development announced. The hotel plans to hire 40 full-time employees.
The LEED-certified hotel will feature:
- 156 rooms, with more than half overlooking the Potomac River
- 1,700 square feet of flexible meeting space
- 24/7 fitness center
- 24/7 business center
- Restaurant/bar with indoor and outdoor seating
The hotel will be the first Hyatt-branded property in Prince George's County, just across the Potomac from Alexandria.
Spartanburg, S.C.-based OTO developed a Hampton Inn & Suites at National Harbor and now manages that property for Blackstone.
"It's always exciting to break ground on a new project," said Corry Oakes, president and CEO of OTO Development, "and that's especially true within dynamic markets where we already enjoy strong partnerships and successful past collaborations. Our new Hyatt Place will complement National Harbor's current mix of hotels and resorts, offering a pet-friendly option with thoughtfully designed guest rooms and social spaces."
Hyatt Place was rated #1 Upscale Brand in the 2018 Business Travel News Hotel Brand Survey, based on its fresh design concept, larger guest rooms, healthy food and fitness options, 24/7 dining and brand consistency.
Partners on the project include Turner Construction of New York, general contractor; //3877 of Washington, D.C., architect and interior designer. The land deal closed March 1 with Peterson Companies, developer of National Harbor.
"OTO's history and in-depth knowledge of National Harbor, couple with the opportunity to introduce the Hyatt brand into an already impressive collection of hotel and resort offerings made them an ideal partner," said Taylor Chess, president of development for Peterson Companies. "We're excited to collaborate with OTO and welcome Hyatt Place to the Waterfront District at National Harbor."
