ALX Community
Alexandria-based shared office concept ALX Community is expanding its footprint in Old Town Alexandria.
ALX Community is opening a second location at 201 N. Union Street, just north of the Torpedo Factory. ALX Community will take up 25,000 square feet of the 106,000-square-foot office building on the waterfront.
Boundary Companies recently purchased the building. The Maryland-based private investment management firm owns a handful of other buildings in Alexandria.
ALX Community’s waterfront location will include private offices, dedicated desks and flex seating. The industrial-meets-mid-century style co-working space will also feature 5,000 square feet of conference space with flexible layouts for training, offsite meetings, lectures and board meetings.
Additionally, the space will also include eight large private offices located in a separate wing geared towards lawyers, financial service providers and therapists who need more privacy measures for their line of work.
For the new space, ALX Community is using BLDG as the architect and Gage Construction as the contractor.
ALX Community Partner Kelly Grant describes the company’s mission as being more than just a workspace. “We’re a community where members are able to work, meet, collaborate, learn, and give back to the city we all love and call home. This hyperlocal focus combined with high design and operating standards sets us apart. Meanwhile, our plug and play memberships make it easy for companies to flex as they grow, avoiding the uncertainties and overhead of traditional long-term leases. This is game changer for companies looking to invest capital in their core business and their employees rather than real estate.”
“We are excited to work with ALX Community and are looking forward to supporting them and their mission, said John Wilkinson, President of Boundary Companies. “The building’s water views, functional floor plates, high ceiling heights, and access to Old’s Town’s vibrant amenity base coupled with ALX’s high design and operating standards will certainly aid their member’s pursuit of potential.”
ALX Community opened its first space in April 2018 in the heart of Old Town at 106 N. Lee Street. The Founders Hall location, above South Block Juice Co., is home to more than 80 small businesses and has more than 170 members consisting of entrepreneurs, small businesses, freelancers, financial professionals and non-profit organizations.
ALX Community’s unique hyperlocal focus actively supports local business and the DC region with community caring initiatives, events, TALX’s, and sponsorships.
To date, ALX Community has had over 150 events, a mix of public, private, and community orientated functions. Their TALX series, 80+ facilitated to date, offer members as well as the public to attend short powerful educational sessions about business development, professional growth, health and wellness, and community awareness.
They have powerful partnerships with Old Town Boutique District, ACT for Alexandria, Alexandria Living, Vikraya Lab, South Block Juice, and Old Town Sport and Health, along with many other local businesses and nonprofits. These partnerships afford them the opportunity to drive community support to important issues like Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault, Breast Cancer, Homelessness, and Alexandria’s Annual Day of Giving Spring to Action.
