If you have driven by 802-808 N. Washington St., you may have noticed a lot of activity over the past few months. The two-story, brick Towne Motel, which dates to 1955, was torn down and a historic townhouse on the site was moved 150 feet to make room for the excavation of an underground parking garage and foundation for a new hotel. The townhouse dates to 1901.
A representative of Reston-based Architecture Incorporated confirmed that the new five-story, 50,000-square foot hotel being built at the site will open as a Holiday Inn Express. Renderings of the new hotel were also provided courtesy of the architecture firm. The historic townhouse will be incorporated into the new hotel design.
A proposed opening date was not provided. There is no word if the new hotel will affect the Holiday Inn Express currently located in North Old Town at 625 First St.
