In a statement emailed to clients on Dec. 28, owner Rachel Winstead announced that Hairy Situations Dog Grooming is permanently closed effective Dec. 29.
Winstead founded the business in 2008 with an emphasis on serving rescue and special needs pets. The grooming salon was located on Potomac Greens Drive before relocating to 1504 A Mount Vernon Ave. in Del Ray in 2018.
In her statement, Winstead said the reason for the closure was not due to a lack of business but to staffing issues and the stress of the COVID-19 pandemic. She announced that she will be working at Annandale Pet Spa located at 4530 John Marr Dr., Annandale, VA 22003. She thanked her clients for trusting her with their dogs for so many years.

To My Dear Clients,
It is with great sorrow that I am announcing the permanent closure of Hairy Situations doors on December 29th, 2020 at 8 a.m. It has been a difficult and sad decision that I’ve had to make. You have been remarkable, loyal clients. I have known most of you for many years, grooming your dogs for the majority of their lives, and in some cases, watching your families grow. Thanks to you, there has never been a lack of business. As most of you know, I have had a difficult time consistently maintaining a full staff over the last year and a half. There have been various reasons for this, but especially now due to the current crisis in our country, the stress of it all has been too difficult to bear and I cannot continue.
I will be working for a wonderful person, Paul Belvin, who helped teach me how to groom at Annandale Pet Spa. I understand that it may be too far for some of you to follow, but if you would like to know where I’ll be grooming, that’s where I’ll be.

I sincerely want to thank each and every one of you for your kindness, and for trusting me with the care of your dogs. It is incredibly painful to know that I will not be able to groom for some of you in the future, but I am hopeful our paths will cross again someday.
