A Café With a Mission
Named after the historic code phrase 'Friend of Dorothy,' the café will honor queer legacy while offering coffee, wine, events, and a community hub for creative expression and connection. Dorothy and her wife are raising their family in Alexandria and envision this space as a home for intergenerational queer and trans joy and resilience. “This isn’t just about another coffee shop. It’s about building a space where queer families and allies feel safe, seen, and celebrated,” says Edwards.
What the Café Will Offer
- Specialty coffee, wine, pastries, and light bites from queer and trans vendors around the DMV
- Rotating art and handmade goods from queer and trans makers
- Inclusive, family-friendly community events like drag story time, trivia, and open mics
- A gathering place for queer joy, creativity, and belonging
