Forbes released its list of the world's top billionaires Tuesday and among them are six who make their homes in Virginia.
Coming in at #33 is Jacqueline Mars, 85, whose net worth is $ 42.6 billion, thanks to the candy (and now pet food, too) empire headquartered in McLean and started by her family.
Jacqueline Mars owns an estimated one-third of Mars, the candy, food and pet care firm founded by her grandfather. She is reported to live on her horse farm in The Plains, Va., one of several homes she owns.
Others who made the Virginia list, according to a report from Patch.com are:
- Pamela Mars, candy and pet foods industry, $11.9 billion (who lives in Alexandria, according to Forbes)
- Winifred J. Marquart, president of the Johnson Family Foundation, $4.7 billion (she lives in Virginia Beach, according to Forbes)
- Daniel D’aniello, one of three billionaire founders of private equity firm Carlyle Group, $4.3 billion, (he lives in Vienna, according to Forbes)
- Michael Saylor, founder and CEO of business analytics software firm MicroStrategy, $3.9 billion (he lives in McLean, according to Forbes and also homes elsewhere)
- William Conway Jr., one of three billionaire founders of private equity firm Carlyle Group, $3.8 billion (he lives in McLean, according to Forbes).
