Amazon announced Monday that its Prime members in the Washington, D.C. area can now make same-day purchases from some of their favorite brands offered on Amazon.
Washington, D.C.-area customers can shop from retailers such as Superdry, Diesel, PacSun and GNC by visiting amazon.com/samedaystore.
Additional retailers launching in the upcoming months include Sur La Table, which has a location in Old Town Alexandria at 326 King St., and 100% Pure.
From the Amazon website, it appears that most of the shopping from the current retailers available will be done from locations at Tysons Corner.
Amazon announced in late 2018 that Alexandria's neighbor, Arlington, would be home to Amazon’s second headquarters (HQ2) and that the company would bring more than 25,000 jobs to the region.
As part of the plans, Virginia Tech announced it would open an Innovation Campus focusing on computer science and computer engineering in Alexandria's Potomac Yard area, opening in 2024.
Amazon has made some progress in their commitment to be a business and community partner. The company has continued to engage with local organizations and now works with more than 100 nonprofits, civic groups, and small businesses, providing in-kind support and charitable donations.
The company recently announced an important hiring milestone, with more than 5,000 employees now assigned to its second headquarters location in Arlington.
Their construction partners have put in more than 2 million hours of work and recently celebrated finishing the top floor—the “topping out”—of Met Park, the first phase of HQ2. The company's architecture, design, sustainability and transportation teams have engaged with the local community and partnered with Arlington County to continue improving the design of PenPlace, the next phase of the development.
