Make plans now to attend the City of Alexandria’s Commission on Persons with Disabilities & the Chamber ALX’s Disability Awareness Awards.
The free event, featuring a presentation, awards and reception, is set for Wednesday, June 25 from 5-6:30 p.m. at the American Physical Therapy Association, 3030 Potomac Ave., in Alexandria.
Did you know that one in six people live with a disability? This includes mobility, visual, hearing, cognitive and neurodivergent conditions – making them the largest underserved minority in the country, according to TravelAbility.
That’s a $50 billion travel market… are you ready to welcome them?
Join the City and Chamber at this year’s Disability Awareness Awards and hear from Claire Mouledoux, senior Vice President of Marketing & Communications at Visit Alexandria. Claire spearheads Visit Alexandria’s accessible travel initiative, is a member of TravelAbility’s Destination Ally Club and was a founding member of Destination International’s accessibility subcommittee.
She’ll share:
- How Alexandria is becoming more inclusive
- Practical steps your business can take today
- Why accessibility is a smart, revenue-driving strategy
The Chamber ALX is proud to announce NextStep Pilates as this year’s recipient of the Commitment to Disability Award.
Each year, this award honors a business that goes above and beyond to support accessibility within the community. NextStep Pilates, a nonprofit based in Alexandria, provides free, individualized Authentic Pilates sessions to military service members and veterans who have sustained injuries in the line of duty. These one-on-one sessions, led by trained instructors, focus on physical development and muscle strengthening.
NextStep Pilates is operated by the team at Studio Body Logic, which has locations in both Alexandria and Arlington.
In addition to this recognition, the City of Alexandria will also honor Diane Monning, director of Programs at The Arc of Northern Virginia, with the John Duty Collins Award, and Alexandria City High School student Evan Ameer Khanna with the Gerry Bertier Scholarship.
