She's Unique founder Katya Ananieva is passing the torch to longtime customers and entrepreneurs Bridget Nistico and Rosio Garcia.
She’s Unique, the beloved jewelry boutique at 205 King St. in Old Town Alexandria, known for its dainty, modern pieces and thoughtfully curated collections, is entering an exciting new chapter of ownership.
Nestled in the heart of Old Town Alexandria, the shop has been a true King Street gem since 2012, housed in a charming historic “spite house” dating back to 1812. Founded by the dynamic mother-daughter duo, Katya and Sibila Ananieva, the boutique has flourished over the past 13 years thanks to their shared vision and passion. Now, as Sibila embraces retirement and Katya steps down as owner, they’re passing the torch to longtime customers, best friends and business partners of more than 20 years — Bridget Nistico and Rosio Garcia.
Katya, known for her impeccable eye for unique jewelry and commitment to championing independent, female designers, transformed She’s Unique into a beloved destination and one-stop shop for modern, layered jewelry.
The boutique has cultivated a loyal following among both locals and visitors, thanks to its signature aesthetic and thoughtfully curated collections—earning the title of “Best Boutique Jewelry Shop” in both 2023 and 2024. Katya’s active involvement with the Old Town Boutique District (OTBD) and her service on the Visit Alexandria Retail Board through June 2025, along with features in national and regional outlets like DC Modern Luxury, have all played a pivotal role in elevating the brand and deepening its roots in the community.
The decision to sell She’s Unique came after a time of reflection, as the business reached a new stage of growth. Katya found herself at a crossroads: expand the boutique into new locations or entrust someone to carry its legacy with care. With her recent engagement, the possibility of moving outside the DC area, expanding creative pursuits and desire for a change in life, she chose to sell. The timing aligned with her mother’s retirement, making it the right moment personally and professionally.
Meet the New Owners
As She’s Unique enters its next chapter, friends of the boutique Bridget Nistico and Rosio Garcia collectively share more than 20 years of business experience and have deep roots in the local community.
Bridget Nistico, a Northern Virginia Native with connections in fashion retail, brings a fresh perspective to the store as store manager. Raised in Northern Virginia by an entrepreneurial Italian immigrant family, she built her career in luxury fashion, where her appreciation for craftsmanship and design flourished. At She’s Unique, she will continue to honor the boutique’s legacy while inviting a new generation to discover pieces that express their unique style.
Rosio Garcia, a California-born entrepreneur and tastemaker, brings purpose and style to her role as co-owner of She’s U
nique. Daughter of Mexican immigrant parents who built their own business, she developed a deep respect for hard work and creativity. Since launching her own company in 2007 Little Mexico &Lolita’s, Rosio has led with vision and cultural alignment. At She’s Unique, she blends her love of beauty with a passion for community, honoring the boutique’s legacy while embracing fresh opportunities.
“Together, we’re excited to carry on the shop’s legacy while bringing in good energy, new ideas, and a modern vision—a perfect mix of the old and the new,” said Bridget Nistico. “Customers can expect the same welcoming atmosphere and carefully chosen pieces of independent designers from a range of jewelry offered in-store and online.”
Transition & Farewell
“As She’s Unique enters its next chapter, I’m filled with gratitude for the incredible people who have helped shape its story,” says Katya. “I’m especially thankful to my mother, Sibila, who has been my rock and constant source of encouragement from the very beginning. I’m so grateful to our loyal customers and community who’ve celebrated their most meaningful moments with us, and to our dedicated team, whose grace and hard work have been the heartbeat of this boutique. I also want to recognize the inspiring community of small business owners—especially the incredible women founders—who have supported me along the way.”
During the transition, Katya will be working in-store on select days, giving customers the opportunity to shop and connect with her as she prepares for the next chapter:Friday, May 2, noon - 5 p.m.; Saturday, May 3, 11 a.m. - 4 p.m.; Tuesday, May 6, noon - 5 p.m.
