Alexandria is one of the top cities in terms of successful women, according to rankings from SmartAsset.
Alexandria ranked fourth (tied with San Francisco) on the SmartAsset list. Arlington, Virginia took the top spot, and Washington, D.C. took 8th place.
SmartAsset wrote, "Our data shows the average full-time Alexandria working woman earns $67,000 per year. That is the fifth-highest amount in our study. The city also scores well in the higher education metric, with just under 30 percent of women having a bachelor’s degree."
Also, 31 percent of local business owners are women in Alexandria, and 44 percent of Alexandria women have high incomes (upwards of $75,000 per year).
SmartAsset looked at six factors in determining the rankings:
- the percent of women with Bachelor's degrees
- median earnings for women who work full-time
- the percent of woman-owned businesses
- the female unemployment rate,
- average cost of housing as a percent of income for a full-time working woman
- percent of women with high incomes.
