Some of Alexandria's small business services are moving under the umbrella of the Alexandria Economic Development Partnership, with a kickoff event this Thursday evening.
Alexandria and most other jurisdictions have their own Small Business Development Center, supported by taxpayers and offering free services to start-up businesses and entrepreneurs. Alexandria SBDC founder Bill Regan retired in 2022, and Director Gloria Flanagan passed away earlier this year after decades with the organization.
In August, the Virginia SBDC Director Jody Keenan announced, "Effective immediately, we are pleased to announce that the SBDC services in Alexandria will now be delivered by the Mason SBDC. The Mason SCDC has a stellar track record in assisting entrepreneurs and small businesses in achieving their goals throughout NOVA."
The Mason SBDC is based at George Mason University in Fairfax. In the same message, Keenan let small business owners know that "Alexandria Economic Development Partnership (AEDP) offers a small business program, tailored to the needs of Alexandria-based small businesses."
The AEDP services will include marketing and brand development, financial management and business planning.
The launch event is at 5 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 9 at Carlyle Tower, 2461 Eisenhower Ave., where small business owners and members of the public are invited to learn about the new services, meet the AEDP small business team and more.
