The 2021 Valor Awards by The Chamber ALX (the Alexandria Chamber of Commerce) honored a number of people who have made a real difference this year (and beyond) in Alexandria.
The annual awards are dedicated to honoring the public safety personnel of the Alexandria Fire Department, Police Department, Sheriff’s Office, and Department of Emergency Communications for heroic acts of valor. Nominated by their peers, the community recognizes the selfless acts of many individuals throughout the year.
The awards this year were presented, appropriately, by Inova Alexandria Hospital, which has done heroic acts of its own in the fight against COVID-19.
Sheriff Dana Lawhorne and Police Chief Michael Brown, who have both announced their retirements, were awarded with special achievement awards for their long service to Alexandria.
