The Alexandria AMC Hoffman 22 movie theater will be opening Aug. 20 with limited seating and 15-cent tickets for opening day.
The promotion is called "Movies in 2020 at 1920 Prices."
Movie theaters nationwide closed due to concerns about COVID-19 this spring, and several blockbuster movie releases were deferred or shifted to online platforms.
The movie experience will be a little bit different: AMC is opening with new cleaning protocols. Movie-goers will need to wear masks except while eating and drinking. The concessions menu is a bit smaller to make ordering faster and reduce lines. In addition, theaters are reduced to 30 percent capacity with every other row blocked off and encouragement to sit a seat away from the closest person.
As was true before the pandemic, movie patrons can order their tickets online for mobile check-in, order snacks online in advance and reserve seats through the AMC website or mobile app.

The movies that will be playing on Aug. 20 include prior releases such as Mutants, Black Panther and Beauty and the Beast.
Several new movies will hit the theater on Aug. 21: Unhinged, Inception 10th Anniversary Event, Words on Bathroom Walls and Cut Throat City. Tenet opens on Sept. 3.
The AMC theaters in Potomac Mills and at Tysons are also opening Aug. 20.
Alexandria’s other large movie theater, the Regal at Potomac Yard, is not reopening as part of a larger redevelopment to make room for the Virginia Tech Innovation Campus.
