The TGI Fridays restaurant at the intersection of King and Beauregard streets in Alexandria has closed.
The company announced earlier this month that it would be closing dozens of restaurants nationwide, as part of a corporate restructuring aimed at restoring profitability.
A sign on the door of the Alexandria TGI Fridays thanked customers for their loyalty and directed them to the next closest TGI Friday's restaurant, at 6640 Richmond Hwy., in Southeast Fairfax County.
At its peak, the restaurant chain had more than 850 venues nationwide. "Bringing people together to socialize and celebrate the freeing and liberating spirit of 'Friday' was the concept’s founding premise, from which the brand promise, 'In Here, It’s Always Friday' was born," according to the company's website.
The first TGI Friday's opened in the 1960s in New York City. It was started by Alan Stillman, who purchased The Good Tavern in Manhattan, renamed it and started making improvements. The company is now owned by TriArtisan Capital Advisors.
